My Students

Classic fairy tales and nursery rhymes are classics because they have been handed down through generations. This project gives the opportunity to my students to hear and read those stories that they might not have been exposed to yet.

The students in my class are an amazing group of kids that come from low-income households (80% are receiving free or reduced lunches) and are struggling to meet our grade-level expectations.

I can see the love of learning in their eyes and it shows in their work. I have a classroom full of kids that for the most part give a great effort to succeed, but I feel could do so much more if resources were available!

My Project

This project will provide much needed books for our classroom library. Too often I find students in our classroom have not had exposure to nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and classic stories. Being able to hear these pieces of literature again and again and again early on help children to develop phonemic awareness and begin to be more fluent in reading. Having these books available to the children in our classroom will give them those missed opportunities. Students will to read these books daily from their book boxes, thus helping build their fluency and understanding of how our language sounds.

Nursery rhymes, fairy tales and classic stories are not very abundant in my classroom library.
