Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some of my students have not yet discovered that writing can capture their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with writing.

My students are very low functioning special education students in a high school setting.

Often when you ask them to write, I get a blank stare. Tell them they must use a pencil and paper makes their anxiety skyrocket. My school is a BYOD (bring your own device). I have supplied iPads and kindles to spark their imagination. They will keep a portfolio of all their writing to show improvement through out this school year.

My Project

My students will be able to use different apps on their devices to publish their work. With the printer and ink they will be publishing their work from my class as well as work from other classes that we help them with. Having a desk to keep their office supplies organized will make them feel proud of the work they produce.

I have seen some amazing work out of my students when given technology to work with.

Students who struggle with pencil and paper often excel with tablets, keyboards etc. My child with cerebral palsy had difficulty writing but when she used the iPad it was amazing. The only problem was, it was difficult to print it for her. Once I handed it to her the smile was amazing. Her writing improved knowing it would be published.
