Provide Special Education Students With A Portable Tutor

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Special Education classroom. My goal is to have my students in the mainstream classroom as much as possible. The challenge is providing the kind of assistance they need when I can't be in the room. The solution is for students to take me with them on their iPod or iPad.
My school is a Title I school with a majority of students receiving free or reduced price lunches.
We are a very diverse school, which provides great opportunities for students to experience cultures they may not have regular exposure to.
My students are all enrolled in Special Education, from grades K-5. Their academic levels are anywhere from one to five years behind their peers.
They would like to be in the General Education Classroom, with their friends, as much as possible. I truly believe that we should do all that is possible to achieve that.
My Project
Since I can not be in more than one place at a time, we need a way for me to assist my students when I am not there. Until I can be cloned, the solution is videos. My students have access to iPads and iPods, which can be preloaded with videos of me explaining the concept they are learning in class. These videos will provide reinforcement and the chance to see the concept explained in a different way. I envision the videos to be a couple of minutes long. Short enough to keep their attention and long enough to explain the concept.
In order to do this I need the following:
1) A Snowball microphone that will capture my voice, while reducing background noise, which is important as to not distract my students.
2) Camtasia 2; software that will allow screen capture and put the videos together.
3) Wacom Bamboo Create Pen and Touch Tablet with wireless adapter to allow on screen demonstration. (Think Khan Academy)
4) A Logitech portable webcam with mini tripod to record the video

Not only will there be an immediate impact, but a long lasting one that will impact not only their education, but also their lives. By including my students in an inclusive class with their peers, it will show them they can succeed and at the same time impact their classmates in a positive way.
In addition these videos will be used for future classes and will make an impact for years to come.
