For students with limited ability to read having a projector to display larger than life visuals is a game changer in the classroom!
My students are wonderful individuals with severe physical and cognitive disabilities.
Many of them are immigrants with refugee status. They not only face the challenges of having disabilities, but several of them are also learning English as a second language. The neighborhood in which my students live and go to school is an urban environment plagued by gang violence. School is often the only quiet and secure place these children have. Despite all that my students are incredibly hardworking, self-determined people. They deserve every opportunity afforded to them.
My Project
I am requesting a portable projector that can hook up to my classroom laptop. This will allow my students to access pictures as visuals instantly. Also, a great deal of the curriculum I have provides supplemental material available on the internet for classroom projection--but without the projector we do not have access. Also, I would like my students to create on-line interactive books, power point presentations, etc, and be able to share their work with their classmates.
Having this projector in my room would change the pace of a lesson.
If students are struggling and need additional visual support I could easily look up a movie clip, a map, and other visuals that would aid their education. My students would also earn a sense of great pride creating work and seeing it projected for their peers to see.
