This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever attempted to build a planter box but only had a hand saw and a hammer? After spending hours of time trying to cut the wood, and hammer the nails, you end up with a planter box that took hours of time and will fall apart in a year. The problem was that you had the wrong tools.
My students have been under-served since the beginning of their schooling.
My students come from low-income homes, many with only one or no parents. They are born with little social capital and are often underestimated by our society. They work very hard when given the chance and I know they will make a positive difference in our world
My Project
I am requesting a miter saw that will allow students to create engineering projects that are professional, high quality, and time saving. The first project students will be completing is a trebuchet project. After the trebuchet is built they will collect data on the path of the flying object using iPads and Vernier software. Then they will mathematically model (both algebraically and graphically) the position of the object over time. By having the right tools students will save time and create more professional work that will create greater pride and admiration for what they have done. It will also allow us as a class to push through more content and projects.
