On May 22, 2011 our schools were destroyed by an EF5 tornado. We lost all of our supplies and resources. As an agriculture and natural resource program, we lost an immense amount of supplies. We are trying to get everything we need to perform our labs.
Students enrolled in agriculture and natural resources classes are the future of our nation.
When enrolled in these courses, students use inquiry-based, hands-on learning to discover the natural world. These are non-traditional agriculture & natural resources students, since they come from an urban environment. My students are important to me because they have to overcome many daily challenges that high school students should not have to face.
Before the tornado that destroyed the city one challenge our students faced was poverty. Over half of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunch program. After the tornado their challenges multiplied because many lost a friend, family member, home, pets, schools and their normalcy of life.
My Project
Students enrolled in agriculture and natural resources classes develop a scientific approach of studying the natural world. I am requesting plant nutrition and soil test kits. With these resources, students will build skills in scientific study to help them succeed in science, technology, engineering, and math related careers.
We want to get hands-on with our experiments!
With these resources I've requested, we will have a chance to do that. Please help my students discover the fascinating world of agriculture and natural resources, as they dive into the world of plant science.
