Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Save our instruments! As a Title I, high poverty school, our kids are faced with making do with what they already have due to lack of funding. Our instruments are beat up, but we still want to take care of them because they are all we have.

The students at our school are predominantly Hispanic in grades pre-k through 5th.

We have one of the largest Title I schools in the district where the students are living in serious poverty. Our students absolutely love having a Performing Arts class. This is the first time most of them have ever had a chance to touch an instrument and actually play one. They enjoy learning how to play keyboard and drums especially. As we are limited in resources, our students have learned how to be great at sharing; you will never hear them complain.

My Project

While we don't have many instruments, the ones we do have we really aim to take care of. In the music classroom, there are no closets or cabinets, just walls cluttered from ceiling to floor with books, and crates. It would be so great for the children to learn how to take care of the instruments by learning how we put them away...and not just shove them in a corner where they can be damaged even more.

We would be so grateful to receive the cabinet.

There just isn't money in the budget for all of our needs, but this sure would be something to make the instruments we have last a little longer.
