Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students really want to rest during quiet time, but find it difficult to rest on the hard floor. Do to the social economics of my school, my parents are unable to provide a resting mat for their child. Being unable to rest keeps them from learning in the afternoon.
My students are ages 4 and 5 in pre-K.
I have 20 students in my class. In pre-k my students do a lot of role playing and creative centers using lots of energy. My students need their quiet time to rest their growing bodies. My school is part of an inner city school in Oklahoma City and a low income school.
My Project
We have just came back from lunch and their bellies are full. They have a challenge situation due to the cold hard floor. Instead of resting they are tossing, turning, and complaining about the floor.
In order to rest during quiet time, my students will use a resting mat instead of the tile floor.
When my students are able to rest they can recharge their batteries to learn for the afternoon.
Our goal is increase our pre-reading skills and number recognition. The students will look forward to school when they can be conformable. Which will increase attendance.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
