Physics Stand for Ramps

My students need the CPO stand, and the super slinky and stand, to be able to study conservation of energy in an effective way using equipment the school already possesses.

My Students

I have 3 CPO pieces that do not work as effectively without the stand, which we do not have access to currently. The stand is universal with most CPO equipment, and certainly is usable with my CPO equipment. Also my one large slinky was loaned out to another teacher and is in a state of disrepair

I have 14 students in AP Physics with a nice male/female balance (close to 50/50) and I also have a large ratio of minority students - close to 50 percent as well.

I know my Physics students enjoy the labs and demos we do in class. My students learn and have fun learning Physics, but that can only be accomplished when I have working equipment. That is why I am making this request. I have parts of this very nice CPO equipment but what I have does not work as well as it could without the stand, which has been engineered to work with all my CPO pieces.

My Project

The concept of conservation of energy is central to Physics. CPO equipment is low friction and works very well with probes. The stand can be used with all of the modules the school has which includes a ramp, roller coaster, and a pendulum. My one large slinky is very common equipment in Physics classes for demonstrations. I loaned my slinky out, trying to be helpful to another teacher in the department, but the slinky is now in a state of disrepair. I only need one slinky to demonstrate types of waves, but a super slinky is the best way to show this concept visually.

Everyone learns best by being involved and doing.

I do my best to have this be the case in my science classes. Without the stand and slinky I can talk about energy conservation and waves, but with this equipment students can see these concepts come to life in a visually compelling manner.
