My Students

Caution! You are now entering the world of the Wee Ones (as I call them). The Wee Ones are constantly on adventures discovering the world around us and making a difference in the lives of others as they go. Our upcoming adventure will having you sitting on the edge of your seat (or jelly beanstalk).

Our school has students from various ethnicitys.

Some of our students have academic delays or giftedness, hearing and vision impairments, or mental and social disorders. Students in our school come from low income to high income families, but we have more families in the low income status which places our school as a Title 1 school. Many of our students come to us with no preschool experience and/or no previous experience with learning to read and write. My students are absolutely remarkable and truly precious gifts. They are very eager to learn, work collaboratively, and take care of others around them. Each day they are challenged with engaging activities and strive to do their personal best with each lesson.

My Project

Our class will be doing a unit on fairy tales and one of our lessons is learning about Jack and the Beanstalk. Around this same time we wanted to do a service project that incorporated economics so we decided to sell jelly beans since it will be around Easter. The money we raise will be donated to the Easter Seals program. To take this lesson a step further we will create our own books based on Jack and the Beanstalk, but with a twist. We will learn about Peter Cottontail during this unit as well, so instead of Jack using his "magic" beans, Peter will use his jelly beans in a story all of their own creation. Students will work in groups of six to create four one of a kind books. Peter Cottontail will visit our room (with the requested costume) to challenge us to make a story. Then he will participate in our jelly bean sales (using the requested jelly beans and packaging) at our grocery store (the play set). Finally our books will be on display at our school library.

I want to provide my students with lessons that encourage critical thinking and collaboration, but I also want the lessons to be memorable and teach them to be well-rounded, caring, and compassionate individuals.

This project accomplishes this and will impact the lives of others through our donations from the jelly bean sale profits. By contributing to this project you will allow my students an opportunity to grow educationally and emotionally. They will always remember the day Peter Rabbit came.
