My students need a carpet that will help them have their own space when they are listening to a story, morning meeting, and other lessons throughout the day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Throughout the day, I have realized that is has become very difficult for students to create their own space when they reconvene for a whole group lesson, community circle, morning meeting, and other lessons. Students have difficulty maintaining their spots and do not know where to sit.
I have 22 students in my classroom.
My students attend an inner city school. My school has more than 700 students. My school welcomes its diverse student population and implements a variety of experiences to reach out to our school community. Some of our more noteworthy events include Literacy Volunteers Program, Family Dinners, Family Fun and Learning Nights, Neighborhood Clean-Up, and the Spring Community Art Show which showcases the art work of students, parents, staff and community volunteers.
My students come to school eager to learn new things everyday. They work very hard to complete all tasks throughout the day.
My Project
I have a Promethean board in my classroom as well as 24 student desks. The students need a common area to sit with an assigned specific spot to have in order not to cause confusion and have students maintain their own space on the carpet. The students are constantly going to the front of the room for math whole group lessons, reading/writing whole group lessons, and science/social studies. It is difficult to have the students sit in the front of the room near the Promethean board in rows without causing confusion and personal space issues.
This rug will help the students in my classroom with personal space, make transitions easier, partner reading (in each box), morning meeting spots, and community circle spots. It also keeps the students safe in their own personal spots.
The students will learn how to be respectful of each others space and also how to transition easier.
I believe this donation will help improve my classroom because it will allow students to appreciate their own personal space, give them their own responsible place in the classroom and allow students to understand the importance of respect and safety in and out of the classroom.
This can serve as a social skill for the students and also a responsible tool for them in the future.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
