Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has one photocopier that is shared by all of the teachers and administrators. Precious instructional time is lost when I have to wait in line for a turn, or wait for the service technician to replace broken parts.

My intelligent at-risk students aspire to complete an Associate’s degree while completing their high school studies in the poorest congressional district in the United States.

These young people, who will be the first in their families to get college degrees, are hard workers who will pass state exams and go on to take Advanced Placement English. These persistent hard workers are striving to make the jump from the tough streets of New York to top colleges. With a little bit of help, they will be sure to achieve their dreams.

My Project

With a dedicated classroom photocopier, my students will be able to get the handouts that they need. I will be able to have them review work right after they submit it. If the five group members each need a copy of the plan, they will be able to walk out of class with an individual copy.

The addition of the copier will empower the students to revise and collaborate in a way that is not currently possible.

Getting the information that they need, whether a teacher designed handout, or a piece of student writing that they are critiquing, will make students able to expand their abilities without waiting to see if next year's budget will include a new machine for the school.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
