My Students

My energetic group of 4th graders is looking for multiple copies of Patricia Polacco texts that can help them enter the fascinating world of literature through the writings of this amazing author.

We are a school with 67% free and reduced lunches.

Our students do not have a lot of resources and this is one way we can help them have access to good, quality literature. We are a medium sized school in a rural community. Our students come from various cultural backgrounds giving a diverse population in my classroom.

My Project

My students will be able to use these resources to help them develop their understanding of a text. They will be able to experience the events from Patricia Polacco's life and begin to understand themes and ideas presented in her books. Students will be exposed to strong characters who have overcome challenges such as bullying, standing up for others and understanding different cultures. Students will read and reread to find character traits, write paragraphs about the stories and learn how an author pulls a reader into the text. These resources will also be used by teachers as mentor texts to model and guide students learning. Students will learn how to make inferences, compare and contrast characters, understand important events in stories and find evidence from the text to support their thinking.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom by allowing all of my students to have their own text to use during instruction.

Each student will be able to look for evidence and support their thinking when they are able to use a text without having to worry that they have limited time before they need to give it to another student. It will allow my students unlimited access to the literature.
