Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal is to make learning fun and meaningful. What that looks like in my classroom is that I allow my students to learn through projects where they must answer an essential question such as, "How does a drought affect our school." They present it as a play, a song, or any other format they choose.
Many have few expectations of my students, not just because of their socioeconomic levels, but because they are labeled as students with special needs.
This is a label that many of my students struggle with because they feel that they are not smart enough to do anything. My job is to help them develop self confidence based on real improvements they can see through the projects they develop in my class. The biggest challenge is organization. This is why I have them work in interactive journals. I help them stay organized and ready for all the requirements of the project. With this they are able to come up with amazing projects.
My Project
If you would walk into my classroom you would see my students coloring the graphs they developed on the computers in their composition notebooks with the pencils, scissors, and markers I am requesting. You might also see them play a game in teams watching the countdown with the clock I am requesting. You could also see them cutting, pasting, and drawing the details of the layers of the atmosphere into a pop-up foldable at their desk with the round-about-caddies I am requesting.
These donations mean my students can concentrate on their learning experience in my classroom and I can concentrate on making their learning experience richer, more interactive and more meaningful to their lives.
With these donations I do not have to hold back on doing some activities because I will have all I need to create fun and interactive material that my students will appreciate.
