My Students

Many of my students start middle school with a math phobia. I have heard so many adults say they struggle with math. It's my goal to change that fear and make math enjoyable.

My students are lively and inquisitive.

They are happy to be at school, ready to learn, and deserve more than our district can provide right now. We are a Title I school in a large, urban district, which means that the vast majority of our students are socioeconomically challenged. Rather that hindering my students however, it just seems to encourage my students to make the most of their education.

My Project

Students will be able to use the requested laptops to access websites that will make abstract math concepts more concrete for them, increasing understanding and retention of learning. For example, students can access National Library of Virtual Manipulatives. Students actually move "weights" and variables on a balance scale to exemplify how to balance equations. They can also manipulate positive and negatives pieces to show how to add, subtract, multiply and divide integers. The concept of negative numbers can be so intimidating but using Chromebooks to access these concepts makes it so much more approachable. Other sites they can use include Exploratorium, Buzzmath, Khan Academy, AAA math and so many more!

This project will make such a positive impact.

It will really allow me to differentiate student learning which will make it more enjoyable for everyone . Students who may need extra help will be able stay on that concept. Students who pick up concepts quickly will be able to move ahead. Being able to work at their own pace and succeed at math will increase their confidence not only in math, but all subjects.
