Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Materials that make students want to participate in a fun way are crucial to learning. "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." --Albert Einstein. This describes the way I like to teach. I always look for fun ways to get my students to get involved.
I teach 6th grade math and science in a middle school.
My students range from students with learning disorders and disabilities to students who are gifted. All of them are gifted and talented to me, but most do not come to school with the materials that they need. In fact, many don't come to school with their basic needs met. I do my best to make sure that they leave my classroom loving math and science, however.
My Project
I am requesting forty-eight new whiteboards, a folding easel, a set of whiteboard markers, and a class pack of colored pencils for projects. We will use whiteboards, colored pencils, and the easel every day. I use the whiteboards to assess my students, but I do so without making them feel that they are taking a test. They love it when we get to use the whiteboards. They get to work together, help each other, and most of the time it turns into a game. To get students who aren't very comfortable with math, doing math and feeling successful is an awesome thing. The easel will be used by students to display and share their work with the rest of the class. The colored pencils will be used for math and science projects. For example, students might use the pencils to create colorful graphs or to illustrate lab experiments.
The donations for this project will greatly improve what I can do with my students.
I can get them practicing more and feeling more comfortable on a daily basis with whatever concept we are learning. When they love math and science class, they are learning and that is what I aim to have them do.
