Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students learn best when they are actively engaged in their learning.
My students come to school with many disadvantages.
They come from single parent homes that are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Their learning does not extend outside of school hours. It is critical that I engage my students in the short amount of time I have with them in my classroom.
My Project
My students will learn about the flow of energy in both living and nonliving things. They need to learn about how energy causes plates to move which create changes to our planet topography. They will learn about the different types of rocks and why they are important. They will also learn about food chains, food webs, animal adaptations, and examine fossils to learn about the interactions between animals. They will use their knowledge to play the Ecosystems Game!
My students need to actively learn science content.
They need to see and touch samples of rocks, they need to make careful observations with the help of lenses, and they need to see pictures of animal adaptations. By studying fossils, they will learn about animal adaptations and about plate tectonics. This will help them to make sense of their constantly changing world.
