My students need bird feathers, a bird center, 13 bird books, bird puppets, a chick life style set, egg & spoon race, stack & nest birds and hide & squeak eggs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children are inherently intrigued by the vast world around them and how it works. As teachers, we must capture this grandiose thirst for knowledge. The excessive asking of "why", should be an opportunity to guide a child find their own answers.
I teach 21 wonderful, intelligent, eager-to-learn, inquisitive, creative Kindergarten children in a high-poverty area of New Mexico.
Our school is Title One and serves 100% free breakfast and lunch. 33% of my students are English Language Learners (ELL's).
My Project
Children learn by doing, which is why it is essential to give them hands-on experimenting experiences. Throughout our year, I incorporate Science, as it is an easy and fun way to roll literacy, writing, math, oral language and vocabulary development and fun, all into one. Last year, we were very fortunate, as the admirable citizen philanthropists here on Donorschoose.org purchased us a magnificent incubator. We now hatch chicks each year. Last year, we hatched 5. The children were mesmerized and after hypothesizing, testing, and truly understanding what was happening, they did what all great scientists do after their research, they asked more questions, MANY more! Questions about birds, other oviparous animals and non-oviparous animals. They had a desire to understand the process of flight and what birds do. Through this grant, you will be giving students materials to find the answers they are searching for. Budget cuts make getting these things nearly impossible.
