Outdoor Adventures

My students need a field trip to the Outdoor School where they will experience a variety of outdoor educational activities that will give them an opportunity to focus on experiential learning and environmental stewardship.

My Students

A typical day in my science classroom is filled with the hustle and bustle of little minds in action. After each new unit is introduced, we head straight into the hands-on activities. This gives them the opportunity to have direct contact with their world and explore the concepts they're learning.

We are a Title I school which boasts a diverse group of children from many different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

They are eager to explore and make sense of the world around them! Many of the students that go here have started out in Pre-K and finish their elementary education here. There is a strong sense of community between the students, parents and school. As I go to work each day, I am reminded how blessed I am when I'm stopped by parents who thank me for the work that I'm doing with their children, I see a truly involved PTA organization, and my administration is constantly searching for resources and ideas to enrich the curriculum. Help me give back to this amazing community of individuals who truly care about the education of the children in this area!

My Project

Our field trip is at The Outdoor School. This is an opportunity for our elementary fifth grade students to enjoy a unique experience in natural surroundings. The students will spend two days attending classes that are grounded in natural science and use Texas Essential Knowledge objectives as a guide to instruction. In addition they will take classes that include personal growth opportunities through group team-building, a high ropes course and an overnight camping stay few urban students have the opportunity to experience. The variety of outdoor educational experiences will give our students the chance to enjoy the outdoors with a focus on environmental stewardship and experiential learning. Students who have attended the camp in the past have returned with a universal respect for all living things, a leap in self-confidence, experiential knowledge of science concepts and better intra-personal skills used during group work. We have to make this happen for them!

Science in a real world setting is an incredible educational experience.

This is an opportunity for them to take all the concepts that they have learned in science and apply them in a fun, exciting, and meaningful way with their peers.
