Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has a two-tiered music program that includes a beginning strings class with the option to continue on and play in the school orchestra the following year.

The orchestra is made up of some of the school's most dedicated students who use their talents and interests not only to sharpen their musical abilities, but to practice self discipline and interpersonal accountability as well.

A few of the members go on to a performing arts high school while others continue to play in high school for their arts units.

My Project

Some of our bows are getting worn and cracked, needing replacement. Others just need to be rehaired, but that requires them to be sent to a shop for a while. With some new bows, we will be able to retire the worn ones and send the balding ones into the shop and still have enough supplies to let the students play their instruments in the meantime. This will help the orchestra to continue with their rehearsals, leading to performances in the school and surrounding community.

The better an ensemble sounds, the more confident they are.

Bows which are weighted properly, have no cracks, and have full hair will make the fullest and most resonant sound. Self confidence and determination are not that common in this school, but showing a group of students that they do have talents and the ability to succeed can inspire them to keep striving for success in whatever they do.
