Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second grade teacher. My motto for this school year is Full steam ahead. Steam stands for Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics which promotes critical thinking, problem solving, fearlessness, collaboration and making/tinkering skills.

My students are very enthusiastic second graders in a rural farming community.

We are a Title One school. 70% of our students are considered socio-economically disadvantaged. For most of my students this is their first exposure to technology but these digital natives are eager to get started!

My Project

My students will be learning Origami during the art portion of our steam rotations. Students will be exposed to a new art form. Origami promotes the practice of my students developing fine motor skills. Once they have practiced basic folding skills they can then explore their creativity and make new shapes. It also is a great way to incorporate math into art.

This donation will improve my classroom by exposing my students to a new form of art.

My students will be able to see how math and art can relate to one another. It will also provide art during our STEAM rotations.
