My students need garden tools, 4 shovels and 2 hoes, to be able to weed and cultivate an organic garden at our school. We hope to involve the community in our gardening efforts.
Many of our students have never visited a farm. They have never planted a garden or watched plants grow outside. My goal is to provide them with this experience. Hopefully they can continue this activity for a lifetime.
Our school is a Kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school located in central Texas near a local military base.
About 60 percent of our students are considered to be from low income families. Many of our students live in apartments or low income housing and have very little exposure to the outside world.
My Project
I am requesting some basic gardening tools to prepare an existing garden bed at our school. Two large shovels, two small shovels, and two garden hoes will help the students accomplish prepping the garden on their own as they discover the joy of gardening.
I am very excited to see the impact that this learning activity will have on my students.
Introducing them to the outdoors, working in the soil, watching things grow, I can't wait to help them explore all of these things.
