This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The theme in my library is "Oh, the places you will go!" I tell my students that they have the ability to go anywhere they want. Even if it is only in a book.
Most of my students do not have access to a public library.
There are several different reasons. They may not have transportation or they may have family obligations, just to name a few. My students depend on our library to read the wonderful new books that are being published. My students depend on their library to be like a public library. However, it does not have the funding like a public library.
My Project
The materials ( Wonder, Shadow and Bone, and The Infinite Sea) that I am requesting will be checked out by the students. I hope that these materials will help my students to escape their daily lives. I also believe the new books will encourage them to read other books that are similar. The more reading they do will expose them to different worlds.
Life has a way of rearing its ugly head on occasion. Many of my students have had difficult lives. They are able to lose themselves in a great book. My students enjoy reading books as an escape from everyday life.
The students know that the library is a safe and quiet place for them.
The students may struggle academically from time to time and I want my students to want to come to the library. I want them to know that they are always welcomed and have a place of refuge.
