This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being a part of community means that we are connected to one another and to our physical surroundings. We want students to investigate our landscape and begin their journey into space right on our campus!

We are an elementary school of nearly 900 students in New Mexico - and we are part of a city that is quickly growing and expanding.

There are so many changes occurring around us everyday and we don't want to miss a thing! We see hot air balloons daily, we have a view of the Sandia Mountains, and we are watching our city grow and expand every day.

My Project

We opened our Outdoor Learning Classroom in the Spring of 2011. We are working hard to add irrigation to the outdoor classroom and a telescope to expand the science curriculum we can offer our students. Many of our students have not had the experience of investigating their surroundings with a telescope and learning about the sky and space around us. As we continue to develop curriculum about our role in being 'green', we want students to understand how our actions on earth impact our planet and the world beyond.

We have an opportunity to spark interest and passion in our students in the areas of science, horticulture, and southwestern history - by adding a telescope to our outdoor classroom, you can help us make it happen!
