Notebooks for Writing

My students need school supplies, notebooks in particular, to assist with writing assignments and projects. Writing is a big component of the Common Core Standards.

My Students

We are beginning a newspaper team and starting a new curriculum in which the scholars are required to write daily. Because of budgeting, we are unable to provide our scholars with the necessary materials such as notebooks to complete writing assignments.

The students that are serviced at my school are at a disadvantage due to geography and low Social Economic Status.

All of the students receive a free or reduced lunch due to family financial hardships. Because of this disadvantage, we look to support and donations from outside vendors to help provide students with school supplies. We educate students from Pre-K to 5th grade. Most students are either Hispanic or African American. The students are very lovable and impressionable. They are eager and excited to learn.

My Project

Our students will use these notebooks to complete their class work and projects in the class room. The things that we would be using the notebooks for is math projects E.L.A projects and other class work. With the notebooks that we would receive we can do more work that would benefit our students. Our school have many after school programs such as: Debate Team, Newspaper Club, After school Enrichment, 5th grade community service, etc, all in which use journals to scribe their experiences, thoughts, and next steps.

Studies show that if you provide the students with the necessary materials they need to complete assignments, they will succeed academically.

Providing these materials will take the stress off of parents who do not have the funds to provide their child with school supplies. Writing is a big component in the new common core learning standards so I want to make sure the students in the building are writing everyday.
