My Students

Can you imagine a classroom where students ask to recycle? Mine do! We are working toward a greener school and can do this by using these recycling sorting bins.

Our school has 450 students.

Every day they use items like cereal bags, Lunchables, string cheese, Capri sun, Colgate and Elmer's glue. I recently looked into a program called TerraCycle where we can recycle these items, send them in, and earn points. These points can be used to purchase items for our classrooms. This way we will reduce the amount of waste our entire school uses. My students ask very often whether something is recyclable or not. Now my answer can be, "yes it is," more often.

My Project

My students will be in charge of this program. Together we will create fliers to go home to let all families know. We will also create a PP slide show to present to all students during our monthly environmental program. My students will bag up the recyclables from the bins and get them ready to ship. After they are received by TerraCycle we can then decide how to use our points, with our principal, for items that are needed in our classrooms. Waste can be turned into goods right before their eyes. This will impact them for the rest of their lives. Recycling is our future.

Recycling can be talked and talked about, but until our students get the chance to take part in it, it won't matter.

This program, these bins, will allow our students to make recycling come alive at our school. Together we will make for a greener tomorrow.
