My Students

Most people who do music talk about performing, but there are many other musical careers available. From sound recording to mixing and production, musical careers are everywhere and we would like to be able to explore the different paths.

We are a low-income school with a great student population that is excited to learn and grow.

We have a high free/reduced lunch rate and asking the students to purchase their own recorders is not a feasible option. There is a high rate of transitory students and our many cultures can cause rifts between them. Our goal is to create an activity that everyone can be a part of and can help to bring groups together in a common goal.

My Project

The three careers that I would like my students to explore are: Sound Technician, Recording Engineer, and Commercial Music Composer. The recording software I am requesting gives students a chance to record and modify sounds, voices, and music for use in producing CD's, commercials, or creating their own remix of a popular song. They will learn the skills necessary to create sounds and music for popular culture aspects such as TV, Radio, and Internet production. The music theory software is to give them the chance to practice and learn new techniques for creating music that they can then produce new music on the music writing software. This software is to help those students who are very into music, but may not understand how they can be a part of it when they are not performing.

I am a music teacher that believes that music goes far beyond what we do in schools.

Most students that are involved with music past elementary school just play instruments, but I wanted them to understand how much more there is. We explore many different things that music connects to in the "real world" and I believe that these types of activities help give a better understanding of how music affects each student's life.
