This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

9.80665 m/s2, 2.99792 m/s, and 6.67259 m3/kg*s2 (phew!) are all fundamental numbers in Physics, and are used frequently in Physics class calculations. Can you imagine performing dozens of calculations using these numbers every day...without using a calculator?

I teach 9th grade Physics in a large public high school.

My students are enthusiastic learners who constantly strive to overcome challenges. 90% are characterized as high needs, and many are socioeconomically disadvantaged and cannot afford to purchase school supplies.

My Project

We need a set of class calculators so all students are successful in Physics class. Many of the calculations we complete in class would take an entire period to complete by hand. Having a class set of calculators will ensure every student has the necessary tools to complete assignments efficiently, so that we can spend less time crunching numbers and more time learning high level Physics concepts.

It is my hope that these calculators will not only ensure my students' success in Physics class, but that practicing using scientific calculators this year will promote calculator literacy skills that my students can use in future science and math courses in high school and in college.
