Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Curiosity is a delicate little plant that, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom." - Albert Einstein. If we provide our students the freedom to explore and create a hands on environment for them, our students curiosity will lead them to experience educational success.
Our school is located in a poverty stricken neighborhood in Dallas, TX.
Our school population includes about 800 students in grades Pre-K-5. My students are English language learners who come from homes with limited to no English proficiency. The students I serve also come from low income families. Even though they are considered at-risk students and find themselves in situation they cannot control, my students come in with determination and the will to find an experience that can only be given in a school setting.
My Project
My students need math manipulatives and iPad's to serve as content enrichment. The resources that I am requesting have one purpose and that is for students to learn critical thinking skills and problem solving through the use of manipulatives. In providing my students with different resources, I know I can reach this goal. Whenever I think of how I can get my students engaged in a lesson or how to capture their attention, I think of how important hands on learning is. I want each of my students to have their own manipulatives during guided practice and whole group instruction during a math lesson. Giving us games like Math Brain and fraction bingo will allow my students hands on exploration into math by having fun, . I want them to not only hear what I am saying but also see, touch and make sense of what they are learning. Technology is also important in reaching this goal. Providing my students with iPad's will allow them to use helpful math applications that will serve as an enrichment tool.
As a product of this district, I have the desire to provide my students with an educational experience that will lead them to success.
These donations will allow me to meet this goal but most importantly allow my students to have an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.
