My Students

On the first day of school, I remember how excited I was. I can't even begin to imagine how utterly scared my Kindergartner's were, as they started out the year knowing ZERO English. Some knew English, many did not! When I would play songs and sing, they would seem to be less frightened.

Some of my kindergarten students just came to Minnesota a few weeks ago.

The first day of school they were SO scared. I immediately read a book about "Bubbles" and began blowing real bubbles in the classroom. We sang a song called "Slippery Fish" (that has bubbles at the beginning of it) I saw the children smile and respond to music and it seemed to put them at ease of being in a strange state, with a room full of children that they didn't know, and a teacher they had never seen before. I fell in love with these little people and decided to use as much music as I could possibly find to use in the classroom. I have played Dr. Jean's songs many times, but misplaced my CDs.

My Project

Through Dr. Jean & Greg and Steve CDs, the children will learn a multitude of things: ABC songs, rhyming, parts of a plant, the Presidents of the USA, short and long vowel words, and much more. I cannot express enough how much this would mean to me and my little kindergarten people. I have seen them come to kindergarten and with few speaking any English and at the end of the year they are reading, but it is my hopes that music can help them accomplish this faster! I am so excited to be a teacher and aspire these young ones to "be all they can be" today, tomorrow, and in the future!

Whenever a person influences a "little" life, it has "HUGE" potential and the benefits are incredible!

Some of my little kindergarten students will go home and teach their parents English words, or their brothers and sisters. It will make a tremendous impact on them and in their world. I am proud to be a teacher and see their little lives unfold . Your donation will touch these lives forever. (And mine too!)
