My Students

Craving creativity in my classroom! We want to take a creative spin on our Revolutionary War historical fiction stories, but don't have the technology to do so.

I teach fifth grade students who are creative, active, and always looking to challenge themselves.

My students need hands-on activities and experiences to understand abstract concepts involving real world situations and to gain an appreciation of historical events. How can we expect fifth graders to understand the events of the Revolutionary War and empathize with our early American ancestors without this opportunity to walk in their shoes?

My Project

Since my students learn best through hands on experiences and activities in the classroom, these MP3 players will allow them to take their historical fiction stories they have written and share them with a greater audience. The MP3 players will be used to record their stories and force students to use emotion and become an authentic character from the American Revolution. This will involve a great deal of research, the writing process, and also allow them to practice their fluency and expression as they utilize the MP3 players. The finished recordings will then be put into Movie Maker, along with images to create a digital story. These stories will be shared on our class wiki for other students and parents to see.

Because of the limited number of MP3 players in our building, this project could not be successful without your help.

This project not only allows the students to be creative, but ties in several state standards in reading, writing, social studies and technology. This will give my students a greater understanding of the history of the American Revolution as it relates to our nation's history and world history. What a great way to promote patriotism through 21st century learning!
