My Students

"I hated Middle School!", the response of one, and the sentiment of other students who shared in a candid discussion after viewing an Anti-Bullying movie dramatized by their peers. Many students were openly moved some to tears)Middle school is where the bullying started for most students.

Statistics report one out of every three children endure some type of bullying daily.

Our middle school/high school students of rural South Carolina are no different. Recently some students confess they have considered suicide as their only way out. Most of these students come from single parent families and live below poverty. The schools are over 90% Africa American. Olweus Bullying Prevention Program recounts the following sad statistics: Each day, more than 160,000 students don't go to school because they are afraid. Some students feel they are alone and without answers. Although the high school students are plagued with the same plight, they are willing to seek solutions for themselves and their younger counterparts, by speaking up about the subject and finding creative ways to stop the bullying cycle. Our school would be considered poor because 985 of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Donated supplies such as acamera and TV can assist in creating and editing.

My Project

In recent years, in particular, there has been a rise in bullying related suicide, and within the last few months this reality has touched our district in a personal way. Bullying victims are between two and nine times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University. We hope to bring this statistic down one little person at a time. We know from past similar projects that children will open up when they feel safe. They are more likely to talk to their peers than an adult. We plan to have high school students find creative ways to present the bullying topic to middle school students in person and via video. We hope this strategy will improve self-image, and develop interpersonal relationships among the victims and the perpetrators who were often victims themselves. According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying. We can make a difference.

No child should hate school.

Everyone should come to school and get the very best education possible without interference. Bullying hurts and we can make a difference with the help of donated a camera, TV and basic supplies that will be used to create and critique performances. We hope that the ABC Family and others will find it commendable that high school students do not use their lack of resources as an excuse to stay in the status quo.we hope you will help us, help others and ourselves!
