My Students

"Oh my goodness! I am so sorry class. I can't seem to be able to hold this big book open so you can enjoy the story and pictures." It's very difficult when you don't have the right set-up for 19 young, eager learners that you greet every morning at the carpet.

I teach at a Title I school in Florida.

Our school consists of close to 80% of students on free or reduced lunch. I have the pleasure of teaching 19 first grade students who are absorbed in learning as much as they can. We start each morning off at our carpet area working on activities such as Calendar Math, Oral Language Skills, Grammar, Spelling, Word Building, Vocabulary, and of course Big Books and Literature Stories. The Language Quiz Game requested will make learning Reading and Language Skills more fun!

My Project

If we had an easel with storage and areas to hang charts, posters, and tablets, we could organize our books, markers, magnets, sentence strips, and Calendar Math materials just to name a few. Capitalizing on my student's eagerness to learn, read and participate in our morning activities, I will have the opportunity to expose them to more learning experiences in which they will carry over to independent center time. During our coin discussion while in Calendar Math, I taught the students many facts about the presidents that are on the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. Boy did that excite them! Having an easel that is magnetic would allow me to post information about the presidents for them to continue to read about. They even went home and researched the presidents on their own to share at Calendar. WOW!! I was totally impressed!!

They are like a sponge. They love being challenged and given a chance to learn beyond their grade. We have so much fun. So let's sit down and let the learning continue!
