This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How do you get children to talk about important issues...by playing games? How do you teach students social skills...by playing games? How do you teach children about winning and losing...by playing games? How do you teach students to be assertive... by playing games?

As a school counselor, I work with over 900 students in grades 3-6.

They are highly motivated and eager to learn. My students are resilient, overcoming many life challenges at young ages. The students I work with are culturally diverse. I see students for individual, small group and classroom counseling sessions. I work with students for a variety of different reasons including academic, social, behavioral and emotional needs.

My Project

Would you talk to someone you don't trust? NO! Through games I build a rapport with my students. When they feel comfortable, they talk. For many of my students it is easier for them to talk about serious topics while playing games. The games are a great tool for me to teach students social and emotional skills. I would like to expand my game collection for my students.

This project is more than just fun and games, it is about helping children.

My students are 8-11 years old dealing with adult issues. Games and activities are the best way for children to talk about their feelings and work through their issues.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
