I am the only math teacher at a small rural Oklahoma school. I teach all the high school students no matter which math course they are taking. This year I am teaching Algebra I & II, Geometry, AP Statistics and Math of Finance/Personal Financial Literacy.

High school students are leaving the classroom without being prepared to deal with their personal finances. This year, the state of Oklahoma started requiring a personal financial literacy course to be taught to all students. Some of the formulas are very difficult for students to comprehend. My students are bogging down trying to remember formulas and how to manipulate them.

With these calculators students don't have to know the formula to find the answer. That frees their brains so that they learn the important underlying concepts. For example, if I charge my lunch on a credit card six times this month(and college students do on a regular basis)and then just make the monthly payment, how long will it be before I've paid for those six lunches?

Research has said that one of the main reasons students aren't finishing college isn't because of academics but rather because of finances. Please help me to help my students become better financial decision makers so that they don't become another negative statistic.
