My Students

Money management is a real problem in the United States today. Please help me teach this crucial skill to my Kindergarten students.

I teach 20 energetic students in rural Alabama.

We are a Title I school, in which most students receive free and reduced lunches. We have received some state funding this year, although it has been limited due to the economy. Most of my students have never had money of their own to manage. Instead of learning money recognition only, I would also like to teach money management skills.

My Project

Our first money management project has been funded through Donors Choose. This is the second part to that project. My students need hands-on materials,such as Baskets, sign holders, coins and a telephone, plus a microscope with accessories to learn money management and basic cells. I need to be able to provide hands-on materials needed to set up simulated stores and services. This will provide practice in money management skills for my students. Each student will have their allotted money(wages) to spend. They will have to provide for their needs as well as their wants using these wages. We need plastic money, shopping baskets, store signs (dramatic play center signs and holders), big screen microscope and slides, pet vet center, and a play phone. I plan on using our local community college's nursing students to help teach my students how to use the microscope and care for patients.

It is very important to teach our youngest citizens money management.

They are our future. Let's help the United States overcome our current economic situation by educating future generations.
