My Students

When I was going through my education courses years and years ago, I never realized the degree of multiculturalism that was around Washington State. My district is at the ~70% of minority/majority with nearly all free and reduced lunch.

Although we do have a very large diverse group of students, our students do very well on the state tests (compared to similar demographics).

We are a small school that seems to be sheltered from "nearly all" of the gang-like activity that surrounds us from nearby districts. I am proud to part of such a positive successful school/school district.

My Project

For years, our 7-12 science department has been working on how to offer quality science education within a very small school atmosphere--five science teachers teach all 7-12 classes. With this unique environment, we try to meet/exceed the larger district counterparts, but this is difficult without useful equipment/resources. One of our weakest units (according to supplies) is that of the Microscopic World. Our goal is to improve the units associated with the Microscopic World within our school.

When I taught in a larger district some years ago, I always looked forward to using dissecting microscopes because my students always were so excited about what they were observing.

It was really something that stuck with them. Also, teaching Atomic Theory and walking through Cellular Respiration with models would also be something semi-tangible for kids to remember/hold onto. Thank you for considering supporting our cause!
