This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Photos tell a story. This is what I always tell my students. Do you remember that first roll of film you developed? You could not wait to see the pictures!

We are the a Title I school in Texas.

The area we are in is high poverty. Students are very interested to learn vocational skills even at a young age. They strive to contribute to their households any way they can. My students would love to create a yearbook to celebrate their final elementary school year through pictures!

My Project

My students this year and for years to come will be able to check out the 8 cameras we need to capture memories from their final year in elementary school. They will also be able to use the cameras to capture images from classes and use them for projects in all subjects. We currently have a photography club that meets once per week and they would love to have cameras to capture images for an end of the year yearbook. I feel this project is important because it gives the students an opportunity to learn a skill that is not normally offered to the younger students in elementary schools. It will also help them learn desktop publishing and many other skills that will give them the opportunity to grow as they get older.

Our mind thinks using pictures!

We don't automatically think H-O-R-S-E when we say horse. Pictures allow all types of learners to build vocabulary and English skills. Our students don't have much at home, but the ability to take a picture will allow them to express the 1,000 words a picture is worth!
