McCarthy Percussion Instruments: We Need YOU!

My students need an expansion in our percussion section. Most of our instruments are very old & in need of desperate repair. We need to purchase high-quality instruments.

My Students

The Percussion section in the Band is the most unique, being that they are in charge of playing the entire family of percussion instruments (over 30 different instruments!). It is so much more fun to play on instruments that are in good condition, and it will improve the sound quality of our band!

Our students are passionate, happy, and eager music-makers.

Our percussionists especially need to feel as though they are an important part of the band, simply because they do not take their instruments between school and home like everyone else. Their instruments belong to the school, so it is the school's job to provide the best quality possible for them. A percussionist has a unique role, and their responsibility to know how to play ALL of the instruments is very important to realize. Our students practice at home, during lunch/recess, and before/after school. Their dedication is inspiring to us as teachers, and we feel the need to improve the quality of the instrumentation that sits behind the wind players of the Band. Our percussionists are excited to learn, and we are excited to teach them, especially when we have good instruments to provide!

My Project

These resources will simply change lives. There is no greater feeling as a teacher than to see a student's eyes light up once they "get it." As a Band conductor, the best part of my day is when a student finally accomplishes a skill that they have been working on. We will use these instruments and materials for years to come, and it will improve the education of our students in ways that are difficult to put into words. All of us have the desire to give our children the best, and that is what we will do if given this opportunity.

Our students will be able to properly play and care for their instruments in the percussion section.

For some, they might continue on in the high school band and then on to a music ensemble or degree program in college. Sometimes, the right experience will just lead them to where they are destined to go, and our Music program makes a strong case for that statement.
