I am second grade teacher, teaching at a low socioeconomic school with little funds. Teaching all subjects it is difficult to provide my 2nd graders with all the materials essential for their concrete minds to learn in depth and build the foundation that is essential to their success. This is a high-need community where parents are more often than not single parent providers who can not aid their school with financial support. In our Reading First area math is not a priority, therefore it is not largely supported with additional materials by the county.

Children innately love to manipulate materials so their brain can process the abstract thought of the money concept. Therefore I need to have the paper and coin materials so all my students can utilize the hands on manipulative's and build a lasting foundation of this concept. Additionally, I need some materials for measuring materials to teach how to measure, build and buy materials. This life-skill will support my students throughout their entire life span. As a teacher I feel responsible to teach these concepts in depth so my students will have a lasting foundation for success. They are so eager to learn all about money and how to measure, but I do not have the materials required to teach them. To even further enhance their learning, I am requesting an allowance game, where they can practice the newly learned skill in a pleasant way. Anything learned in fun will last a life time.

Our resources in the county are low for anything not reading related. Parents are working hard just to provide food for their children and to get them to school. We need supplies that will deepen the understanding of my 2nd graders to where they will have the manipulative, the money to actually act out and count out what it is they are learning. Therefore they will build a lasting life time skill, which they need for the rest of their life.

With your help, we can help these underprivileged children not only to learn, but to build a concept that may even help them to break free of their socioeconomic situation. Students need these manipulative's to provide them with the basics to enhance their comprehension. You would help my second graders to become a success story by teaching them a concept that many of their parents still not know. Money management is an essential life skill that you will make possible for me to teach. Thank you so much for supporting America's future financial matters.
