My Students

Every day in my classroom we are engaging in Math and it's connection to the real world. Some days we experience direct instruction, other days we play games to practice. What challenges my students most is knowing how does Math really fit into life? Math Scholastic Magazines would help show them.

My students are energetic 6th graders!

They come from all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, religions, and economic status. They have so many differences, but we are all still one big Bobcat family! In our district, our school is frequently expected to finish right at the passing level, but we always rise to the challenge and show the world despite our challenges - we are victorious! Bobcats are not underdogs!

My Project

These magazines would become part of the centers that I plan to incorporate in my classroom. Centers are a great collaborative way to learn and an opportunity for me to conference with each student consistently, help them with their challenges, and congratulate them on their successes. The Scholastic Math Magazine, would most likely become a center, but also much more. These magazines are so relevant to students. They are engaging and bring Math to life for students with a variety of interests from video games to cute and cuddly animals.

This project will make a difference in my students' lives.

So often Math is just another class and another grade to earn. As a teacher, I know it is so much more! Math is imperative to being successful beyond high school and opens so many doors in multiple career avenues. This magazine can be another medium in which students are exposed to that truth. Their interests are present in these magazines and make Math relevant to them and their future.
