MATH is FUN...Learning through Math Centers!!

My students need math manipulatives to improve essential math skills in a fun, innovative way while participating in math centers or math games.

My Students

Do you remember trying to learn math concepts by rote memory? Well I do and I found it extremely boring and not very effective. Why not let kids learn math by doing hands-on activities such as math centers and games.

The students in my class are full of energy, inquisitive wonder, and enthusiasm.

They come from various diverse cultures, speak different languages, and many of their families are struggling economically. The school they attend is in the state of Washington. It is culturally diversity with 78% free or reduced lunch and over 40% English Language Learners.

My Project

Students learn best by doing and exploring concepts by themselves or with friends. Receiving math center ideas and math manipulatives will help increase my second graders natural curiosity of math. They will use the materials requested to demonstrate necessary math skills in a fun, innovative way. For example they may use dice to practice basic addition and subtraction facts, learn fraction concepts through the fraction circles, and understand number sense by utilizing number tiles. There is no limit to the mathematical skills that can be acquired when they are motivated to learn.

The math resources I've requested will not only add much needed hands-on materials to my classroom; it will enable the children's natural curiosity of how and why things work.

These resources will ensure that the students are developing math concepts and the ability to create meaning for themselves through hands-on activities. This will provide a HUGE boost to my students' math skills AND most important to their self-confidence now and into their future.
