My Students

Over 400 years ago Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power". I could not agree any more. I want my students to have the same educational opportunities as students who live in wealthy suburbs.

I came to teach in Tennessee through a non-profit program to help a Title 1 school.

My students do not come from wealthy homes, but they do come from homes that care. This year I have the largest class in the school, but I would not choose to change a thing. As a whole I am very proud of my class’ level of enthusiasm to learn, behavior, and politeness.

My Project

This is my first time visiting Donors Choose. I currently teach the most advanced kindergarten math class. As I teach my students the grade level expectations, I keep in mind what my second graders were unable to master last year. Each resource that I have added to my wish list will help my students obtain higher level math skills in a constructivist manner. I added a math puzzle with numbers, dot paint and construction paper to create patterns, bingo games to encourage competition and good sportsmanship, along with hands-on manipulatives that can be used in a whole group or in centers. My students will learn that math is used in more than one way and can be fun to learn everyday!

Kids love to explore new gadgets and games.

In the educational world teachers would call these gadgets and games manipulatives. I work to the fullest with my stories, collected bottle caps, and nature walks where we look for shapes and symmetry, but I feel that the mathematical items that I added to my cart today will really engage and excite my students. My class is very respectful. I know that they will appreciate any donation that comes our way. They will learn loads!
