Making Science Fun For An Exceptional Children's Classroom

My students need a hands-on experience for Science. We are in the need of kits that allow us to support state standards in a special needs classroom.

My Students

Most of my students have not had a positive learning experience with larger class sizes. They have the want and desire to learn what their same grade peers are learning, but just needed to be given the avenue to travel down.

I am a self-contained special education teacher in a Title 1 school in South Carolina.

Our school is spilt gender and I have the privilege of teaching 6-8th grade boys. We have a wide variety of classifications in our room ranging from a moderate intellectual disability, autism and emotional disabilities as well as many more in between. This group of young men have the desire to want to learn, but need a smaller environment, more hands-on activities and the larger concepts broken down to a level they are able to understand. Our class would benefit from the addition of hands on science kits in order to meet the state requirements and prepare these students not only for testing as well as life experiences. I would love to be able to expose them to a positive classroom experience where Science is fun and not overwhelming.

My Project

Our class would be able to use the Science kits to learn at the same pace as their same aged general education peers, with the opportunity to retain the information. We will be able to work with the kits and make science fun again. These amazing science kits would give us the chance to learn about the solar system, the body systems, and force and motion.

If our class had the chance to receive this awesome gift, you the donor, would be opening new doors in the area of Science and bring a level of joy and accomplishment to a group who has experienced doubt and frustration in the general education classroom.

Our goal is to give a middle school classroom they will always remember.
