Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine a classroom that is fully integrated with the latest technology? With three tablets currently in use in our classroom, we face the challenge of having all students consistently benefiting from the wealth of resources available to aid in enhancing learning.

My students are an eager group of diverse learners.

Our class is made up of many types of students. We have some students who are advanced, and others who are several reading levels below grade level. Two autistic students add to the diversity of our class. Our demographics are diverse. We have many different ethnic groups represented and several who are eligible for free and reduced lunch. They are very active and eager to learn in many different ways- both traditionally as well as interactively through technology. They face the challenge of taking our state-mandated tests for the first time this year. It is a mandatory retention year, meaning if they do not pass the test, they do not pass the grade. Having additional resources available for instruction will better prepare them for these tests.

My Project

Having additional tablets in our classroom will allow for growth in both literacy and math knowledge. We are currently blending our Sunshine State Standards with Common Core standards. I am using many different apps to use for small group learning. I use reading comprehension and math apps that allow students to practice their skills. I also use the local library and Scholastic Storia apps with headphone splitters so that students can listen to audiobooks and practice reading books on their levels. Through differentiated instruction, students are beginning to improve their performance. Having additional devices will allow more students to access these resources. Currently, only two or three students have the opportunity to learn interactively in a way that is supplemental to our curriculum. I would like to increase participation and engagement through technology in my classroom. Additional devices will allow me to fully integrate student engagement within our curriculum.

In today's technologically-focused society, it is essential that I use technology as part of my instruction.

I am finding that students become more engaged when they have the opportunity to interact with technological resources. I am passionate about making learning engaging and relevant. Students rarely reach their potential through traditional teaching methods. I want to have a classroom that is fully immersed in technology. Any assistance in reaching this goal is very much appreciated.
