Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children with special needs often need special ways to learn things we all take for granted. Increased repetition, novel learning approaches, and hands-on materials help them retain what they learn far better. Making it STICK is what my students deserve!

These children are amazing.

I say that not only as their teacher, but also as a person touched by each and every one of them. They all have difficulties with speech and language, many have processing difficulties, and a few have difficulties with their motor development. Most of them live close to the poverty line. ALL of them deserve to have the same learning experience of children who live in districts with far more resources than where they live. The challenge of our class is having ability to supply the hands-on learning toys or make the hands-on projects to help the knowledge "stick." Many of the requested materials have the ability to challenge these children and give them the hands-on feedback they need to generalize all the skills they learn. Let's make it STICK!

My Project

The items requested all fall into the theme of "making it stick." The magic boards are magnetic doodle boards with a rough writing surface to help the children get sensory feedback when learning letters- a great way to "make it stick." Hook and loop squares and clear contact paper give us the materials to make long lasting match, sorting, and language building projects. The pegboard game helps the children "stick it" with numbers. The rubbing tiles help give sensory feedback when coloring, making coloring motions "stick" in the muscle memory. The wiki stix and wiki letter pads make learning to build and write letters sticky fun! All the items truly hit all the senses, which make learning.... you got it, STICK!

This project will not only help today's students, but many more students in the future.

Lakeshore is known for making learning materials that last. These "sticky" supports will last for years to come, helping enrich the lives of many more low income and highly deserving children with special needs.
