This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are excited learners who are always finding ways to connect their learning in the class to the world outside of the class. My students have a wide range of abilities and we work on developing as citizens as much as scholars.

My students are budding artists, musicians, athletes, and public speakers.

They are all scholars. Our school gives students many opportunities to connect their learning with the world around them through expeditions which send kids out into the world or bring speakers and events into the school.

My Project

We'll be using the scholastic math and science magazines and the online materials and resources that come with the magazines as a major resource for classroom learning. Instead of reading xeroxed copies of handouts or answering questions from outdated textbooks, our students will get to link what we're learning in class to real world current events and newsworthy topics. With the monthly magazines, I envision students picking out articles they're particularly interested in, becoming experts in the topics, and sharing their learning through increasingly large forums. I see students jumping for joy when the latest edition has arrived because learning is fun.

Sixth grade is a critical year for students to learn to either love math and science or do the opposite.

Help me help them choose to become the future programmers, engineers, scientists and mathematicians of the world.
