My Project

My students belong to a diverse community in Sacramento. There are so many cultural celebrations in our community that are worth learning about. One of the big celebrations that is coming up is the Lunar New Year. This event is widely celebrated and I want my students to learn the significance of this cultural event that is similar but different from what we usually celebrate on January 1st.

I want my students to expand their understanding of the cultural traditions of their Asian neighbors who celebrate the Lunar New Year.

The book will teach my students about the preparations that bring luck in the coming new year. The lantern craft materials will help my students learn about the lunar new year in a tangible way as we use their creations to decorate our classroom. The red envelopes with gold chocolate coins and the treats will provide an exciting experience as we learn about gift-giving, reunions, and the sweet memories that families make together through this wonderful spring festival. I believe that learning about other cultural celebrations is important in fostering understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures in our community and around the world. I hope that you can help me make this learning experience possible for my class.
