LSI: Leadership in Science Class Materials

My students need 16 real lab notebooks for our new science elective where they will be designing their own questions and acting as scientists at a chemical company.

My Students

What was your high school science class like? Do you ever remember wanting to be able to explore a topic more or do more labs? We've created a science elective where our students will get to do exactly this! We want them to be armed with materials of real scientists, and you can help!

Our students are inner city charter school students that want to succeed and go to college.

This class is for students have selected to enroll in this extra elective so they can improve their science skills and learn more science. They are all very interested in science, and almost all of them are looking forward to pursuing a career in science.

My Project

These science notebooks are similar to the ones students will use in college and will make those blank lab notebooks their freshman year seem less daunting. It will also provide a great way for them to keep track of everything we're doing in class. The main ways that students will be assessed in this class is by their lab reports and presentations of their findings. The whole class is working together to solve a problem, but individual groups will be doing separate mini-experiments to contribute to the class discussion. It's crucial in all of science to take good notes so that you can share with your colleagues.

This class is meant to make students actually see themselves as scientists and teach them the critical thinking skills they need to develop their own questions and find answers to them.

It's also meant as a chance to learn some of the content that there wasn't enough time to cover in their other science classes. They're all very excited for the class, and you can help them be prepared for it!
