Do you remember how hard it was to pay attention in Science class when you just had to read out of the book? I want my students to wake up to learning with visuals, such as models of plant and animal cells. I am requesting cross-sections of cells, along with a terrarium. What fun to grow plants!
I teach a great age group!
Fifth Graders are curious learners with a bit of independence. They love to explore on their own. We live in a fairly remote rural school. My students don't easily have the opportunities to go to children's museums that can be found in large cities. Therefore, I want to put models in their hands. I want them to hold a model of a plant cell and then an animal cell so they can see and touch the differences in them. Growing plants in the terrarium will be so much fun once we've discussed the cells and parts of a plant.
My Project
I chose a variety of science hands-on manipulatives for my students to better understand some topics that need to be brought to life. So many students are good visual learners, and I just don't have the resources to purchase all the neat materials that are out there to enhance their learning. I'm requesting a variety of plant and animal cell models, a die cut pattern of the cells, and a terrarium to grow plants once we've mastered the cells. These models and games, plus the terrarium will be a true asset to my science program.
Bringing Science to life is so important to me.
I see the curiosity first hand in my students on a daily basis. By acquiring some of these extra materials, I can help make Science more exciting and fun. Funds are limited for all schools. We are no exception. There is barely enough money for basics let alone the items that will enhance their learning.
